For the Foundation Vida Silvestre Mediterránea - FVSM - environmental education has always played a crucial role in the work of preserving and protecting the natural heritage. Since the founding of the Black Vulture Conservation Foundation (BVCF) in the 1980s and the founding of the Sister Foundation FVSM in 2003, environmental education has been essential to the restoration process of the Majorcan black vulture population. Various actions and programs have been set up to inform local people and visitors about the problem of the black vultures and their habitat - the Sierra de Tramuntana - always seeking support and cooperation.
Environmental education aims to foster the active participation of the public, which is constantly encouraged to contribute to the discourse with its knowledge or identifying lacks of knowledge. In this way, the public learns through active participation, change habits, asking questions and exchanging questions, and thus reach possible answers and solutions to given issues.
